The xFORMAL project is made up of seven different work packages:
WP1 – Administration and Coordination WP1 is dedicated to the administrative, financial and strategic management of the xFORMAL project and ensures the monitoring of the overall implementation, the compliance with the project objectives and the quality of the activities carried out. This work package coordinates internal communication between partners, monitors technical and scientific activities and ensures timely financial reporting to promote transparent and effective management in line with European standards. Particular attention will be paid to the management of international mobility, the planning of secondments and the implementation of internal evaluation mechanisms.
WP2 – Exploring scenarios for the development of cultural heritage WP2 aims to research, analyse and select the cultural content and scenarios that will form the narrative and pedagogical basis of the e-game. Through an interdisciplinary approach involving archaeologists, anthropologists, pedagogues and technologists, the package focuses on pre-Roman European cultural heritage with the aim of developing learning paths linked to common landscapes, practises and symbols. The chosen approach valorises the landscape as a pedagogical and narrative environment capable of activating informal learning processes rooted in territoriality and cultural memory.
WP3 – Playful informal experience. Building the game of cultural heritage WP3 is dedicated to the design and development of the e-game, intended as an interactive informal learning environment based on the content developed in WP2. The digital game will be built according to the principles of game-based learning and structured around a central narrative enriched with mini-games, exploration modules, augmented reality elements and geolocalisation mechanisms. WP3 involves ICT experts, designers, educators and humanities scholars to ensure a balance between scientific rigour, accessibility and engagement, with a strong focus on usability and user experience.
WP4 – Testing the game WP4 aims to test the effectiveness and usability of the developed educational game through testing in real-life contexts in different European countries. The pilot activities will involve students, citizens, educators and museum operators who will provide qualitative and quantitative feedback on learning dynamics, interaction with cultural heritage and the use of technology. The package includes observation tools, interviews, questionnaires and participatory methods to evaluate the educational impact of the e-game and support possible improvements.
WP5 – Sharing knowledge and good practises WP5 aims to share the results, knowledge and good practises developed during the project. It includes scientific and dissemination activities, networking and exchanges between sectors (academic, cultural, educational and technological) and the organisation of public events and workshops. This package promotes an open and participatory vision of research that strengthens the cross-sectoral dimension of the project and encourages the development of European networks centred on cultural and educational innovation.
WP6 – Knowledge base and utilisation of results WP6 has the task of systematising the knowledge gained, consolidating the methodological and content-related legacy of the project and planning strategies for the use and sustainability of the results. A “Body of Knowledge” will be created in which the processes, tools, models and approaches developed will be documented to facilitate transfer and reuse in educational, museum and territorial contexts. The package also includes activities to identify possible commercial or institutional applications for the e-game product, with a view to continuity and long-term impact.
WP7 – Ethical issues WP7 ensures that all project activities are carried out in accordance with ethical principles and European regulations on research, data protection, inclusion and equal opportunities. Particular attention will be paid to the protection of participants in the pilot projects and field research, the responsible handling of information collected and the promotion of a fair and culturally diverse approach. This package also includes the monitoring of digital content and game dynamics to ensure compliance with the educational and inclusive values of the project.
